So there is a new series of the A House Through Time starting 7th September, 9pm BBC Two.
I really enjoyed the previous three series. The series on the house in Bristol was really interesting, though I think I preferred the first series on the house in Liverpool.
My over riding memory of BBC Television Centre was seeing it now and again on Blue Peter when they ventured outside the studio. I never went there when I was a kid so even these days when I am in the locality I still find it exciting, even though I know the BBC left years ago for Salford.
If you are watching The Trial of Christine Keeler you may recognise some scenes which were shot on Broad Street in Bristol. This is a screen grab of tonight’s broadcast.
You can see three old cars and this is the view down towards the Church of St John the Baptist on Christmas Street.
Here is another screen grab of Broad Street at night.
As it happens back in January 2019 I was walking around the area on my lunch break so I took a few photographs of the filming.
I was impressed with the number of 1960s cars they had used to dress the street.
The BBC have released a trailer for their “proper” version of The War of the Worlds.
This is the original alien invasion story. Staring Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall and Robert Caryle, this tense and thrilling drama follows a young couple’s race for survival against escalating terror of an alien enemy beyond their comprehension.
I really like this video clip from the BBC Archive on a 1963 view of what 1988 would look like.
#OnThisDay 1963: Time on Our Hands looked back on the events that had shaped idyllic 1988, like the Russian moon landing, the rise of the mega cities of Milford Haven and Holyhead, the great tea shortage and the coming of the machines. pic.twitter.com/fRWyxVWLWC
It really demonstrates how difficult it is to predict the future. Some stuff you get right, most things you get wrong, and timeframes are really hard to judge.
