41. The Birds

Up in the new Brabazon development is The Birds.

41. The Birds

41. The Birds

An homage to Alfred Hitchcock’s feather-ruffling thriller ‘The Birds’, this Gromit is sure to be the squawk of the town. See if you can spot a familiar face…

It was nice also to see the Brabazon Hangar from the car park. As well as the Brabazon, this hangar was also used for a range of other uses including Concorde.

Brabazon Hangar

Back in the 1990s I visited the hangar a number of times , when I ran some college field trips to Airbus to look at manufacturing and technology.

The future for this huge building is to become a venue for arts and music.

15. Gromit Woody

One of three sculptures that can be found at Cribbs Causeway.

Yee haw, there’s a new sheriff in town. Gromit Woody has been designed in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios. A new addition to our Toy Story family, following the much-loved Gromit Lightyear in 2013, this rootin’ tootin’ pooch is ready to lay down the law. Watch out Gromit… There’s a snake in your boot!

8. Darth McGraw

One of three sculptures that can be found at Cribbs Causeway.

In collaboration with Lucasfilm, this bird of many faces has been transformed into a Lord of the Sith. Of course it’s no secret that Feathers McGraw has always been drawn to the dark side. © & ™ 2025 Lucasfilm Ltd.

Then and Now Take Two – Cheddar Yeo Sword

This is a regular series of blogs about photographs of the same place taken years apart. The first of the posts in this series was of a council building in Manchester. I always thought I should give then and now photographs a go. However what I have started to notice is that I have been doing Then and Now photographs unintentionally over the years and have been taking photographs of the same thing or place from the same view o ar perspective years apart. Now this has come to my attention I have started to intentionally take photographs of the same place.

I took this photograph of the Cheddar Yeo Sword in August 2025 using an iPhone 13. Having taken the same photo before in 2024 and 2021.

Back in January 2024, I was having a short walk in Cheddar after the storms and the Cheddar Yeo stream was a real torrent of water. I took a photograph of the Cheddar Yeo Sword being bombarded by the water.

I checked my older photographs of Cheddar after taking that photograph and there was this very similar photograph I had taken in Cheddar in May 2021 from almost the same perspective.

53. Yellow Submarine

One of three sculptures that can be found at Cribbs Causeway.

We’ve all heard of the Fab Four, but now we have a fab four-legged friend! Yellow Submarine has been designed in partnership with the legendary Sir Paul McCartney and is based on The Beatles’ smash hit film and song from the 1960s.

49. Wallace Aurelius

This Wallace sculpture is all the way down in Cheddar.

49. Wallace Aurelius

Who goes there? It’s Wallace, in his starring role in this Roman historical epic. Visionary inventor, hapless gladiator and part-time philosopher, Wallace is bound by strength and honour. Gromit diem servat!

25. Oceana

25. Oceana

Gromit’s shimmering, pearlescent coat, with imagery of the sea and a belt made from shells, pays homage to the folklore of mermaids. These magical sea creatures have inspired countless books and films, and now, this captivating sculpture.

52. Woolly Capers

The only Shaun the Sheep on this year’s trail is outside the Aardman studios.

Woolly Capers

Woolly Capers

Ewe won’t believe it! Woolly Capers is a special collaboration celebrating 30 years of the baa-rilliant Shaun the Sheep since the release of award-winning Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave.

Cheddar #50places2025

I made a visit to Cheddar, in the main to grab a photograph of the Gromit sculpture, but also have a walk. Cheddar can be slightly cheesy in places, but the magnificence and natural splendour of the gorge makes all that tack and cheese pale into insignificance.

It was a rather hot day, so made the decision to not walk up the gorge itself, but did drive through it up the road.

17. Jolly Roger

Amongst the boatyards of the Undersell Yard is the piratical Jolly Roger.

17. Jolly Roger

This fearless and swashbuckling pirate is ready to delight the crowds before his next big adventure, proving that even the smallest pirate can make the biggest splash! Ahoy, me hearties!
