Shaun the Sheep (and friends)

One of the things we missed this year (not that it happens every year) was doing a statue trail.

Back in 2015 we did the Shaun in the City trail across Bristol, the wider area and finished off seeing them all at Covent Garden. We managed to see 62 out of the 70.

In 2018 we did the Gromit Unleashed 2 trail which as well as Shaun the Sheep and Gromit, also had Wallace getting in on the act as well. This time we did manage to capture all 67 sculptures.

So it was quite nice on a visit to the Mall at Cribbs Causeway to see a few sculptures in the Gromit Unleased shop.

There was the vanilla Shaun the Sheep.

There were a few Chinese inspired sculptures as well, including Kansashi

Then we had Year of the Gromit.

Also Shanghai Shaun.

I quite enjoyed seeing Caractacus Paws again, which was one of my favourite Gromit from the Gromit Unleashed 2, though Bristol’s Own was probably my actual top sculpture.

The other Gromit there as The Sea of Hope.

Though not a Gromit or a Shaun, I did quite enjoy seeing the huge Morph as well.

Success – Gromit Unleashed 2

Yes we managed to get them all… I have seen and photographed all 67 sculptures. Here they all are, click the images for larger versions.

Out of the 67 I don’t think I could choose a single one as a favourite. I really like 65. Swallows & Amazons as well as  33. Rocket Man. 50. Spock made me smile as did the cleverness of the Lego constructed 38. Cracking Build Gromit!. I appreciated the poignancy of 25. Bristol’s Own and the wonderfully clever  29. Alex the Lion.

So no I didn’t have a favourite, but I did enjoy “collecting” them all.

67. Amazing Grace

67. Amazing Grace can be found at the Baptist Church Garden on High Street in Chipping Sodbury.

67. Amazing Grace

Looking a lot like he is covered in stained glass, Gromit is brightly covered in various geometric shapes.

67. Amazing Grace

Lovely patterns on the back as well.

Back in 2015 I attempted to see and photograph all 70 Shaun the Sheeps I managed to get 62. This time I am aiming to get all 67 sculptures. I have created this page to record all the sculptures we find. Download the app to find the sculptures.

65. Swallows & Amazons

The 2016 hit film Swallows and Amazons, based on the Arthur Ransom’s book is the inspiration for 65. Swallows & Amazons, which can be found at the main entrance to the Willow Brook Centre in Bradley Stoke. Gromit is basically a map.

65. Swallows & Amazons

I love the flags on the ears, now is the flag of the Swallow boat, the other is the skull and crossbones of the Amazons.

65. Swallows & Amazons

On Gromit’s back you can see more details and places from the stories. Wild Cat Island taking centre stage

65. Swallows & Amazons

There are also the boats from the story as well as Holly Farm where it all beings.

65. Swallows & Amazons

The whole map thing works really well.

49. Gromjet

Complete with jet engines, this Gromit is ready to take off.

49. Gromjet

You can find 49. Gromjet inside one of Bristol’s newest museums, Aerospace Bristol next to Filton Airport.

49. Gromjet

I found this Gromit rather challenging to find.

The description on the website says

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s ‘Gromjet’! Perhaps donning one of Wallace’s latest ambitious inventions, you’ll find this turbo-charged pooch soaring around Aerospace. Showcasing a very futuristic mode of transportation, a moving, interactive ‘Gromjet’ is designed and sponsored by Trailblazer Rolls-Royce!

My initial thought it was at the entrance to the Rolls Royce complex, I misread the map too. It was only after getting the app that I realised that it was in fact hidden inside Aerospace Bristol.

25. Bristol’s Own

25. Bristol's Own

Guarding the statue of William III in the middle of Queen’s Square in Bristol is the uniformed 25. Bristol’s Own.

25. Bristol's Own

Wearing a canine version of the uniform of the Bristol’s 12th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, the Gromit had his boots and cap, with “Private Gromit”.

25. Bristol's Own

Dogs were used during World War One to deliver messages, food carriers and as companions to the soldiers.

25. Bristol's Own

In his back pocket you can see a love letter to his sweetheart, Poppy.
